The NBA has a ton of young stars with extremely bright futures. The point guard position features two of the biggest up-and-coming stars in Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies and LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets.

Morant was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, while Ball was selected third overall in 2020. They are the last two Rookie of the Year winners in the league and are quickly becoming the face of the franchise for their respective teams.

Memphis and Charlotte couldn’t have landed these players at better times. Both teams saw long-time point guards Mike Conley and Kemba Walker depart in recent seasons. Convincing stars to sign in those markets is tough, so landing them in the draft is huge for the organizations.

There should be plenty more accolades for these two in the future. They are electric with the ball in their hands and are at the forefront of each team’s resurgence. Morant was the driving force in the Memphis Grizzlies winning two games in the NBA Play-In Tournament last season to earn the eighth seed against the Utah Jazz. Ball wasn’t as successful leading the Charlotte Hornets in their Play-In Game but is hoping to take the next step this season.

Plenty of teams around the league would love to have either one of them leading their teams. Recently, there was a debate held on ESPN’s First Take about which point guard you would rather start your team with; Ja Morant or LaMelo Ball.

Jay Williams would take Ball and believes he has the potential to be the face of the league.

While not as athletically gifted as Morant, Ball has elite size and length for the point guard position that you just cannot teach. He is already a more efficient shooter than Morant is and improving with his finishing around the rim.
