Coming off their run to the NBA Finals last season, the Phoenix Suns have had a rough start to the 2021-22 NBA season, but they have also faced three strong playoff threats in the Western Conference to begin the year with the Los Angeles Lakers, Denver Nuggets, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, and some other young talents make up a title-contending group in the Western Conference, but adding some more bench talent could go a long way in the Phoenix Suns finally being able to raise a banner. Not having enough depth really hurt them against the Bucks last season, which is why adding Eric Gordon would make sense.
As mentioned earlier, he has been in the league for years now and has continuously proven to be a vital scorer either in the starting lineup or off-the-bench, which is why he could fit in so well in Phoenix.
Given that he is an above-average defender on the perimeter, Gordon could provide some stability in the Phoenix Suns’ second-unit and be another catch-and-shoot threat, along with Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, out on the perimeter.

Moving Dario Saric and Jalen Smith for Eric Gordon may not be such a bad idea for the Phoenix Suns, even if they will be taking on more money by acquiring the veteran.
Phoenix is about $8M under the tax line for this season right now, so they do have some “wiggle-room” in terms of bringing in another difference-maker at some point this season via trade.

Phoenix is not going anywhere in terms of title contention this season and in order to maximize their chances of getting back to the NBA Finals, they could realistically target an experienced player like Eric Gordon for more bench depth on the wing.
