Would this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
The Houston Rockets finished as the worst team in the NBA last season which was to be expected after they blew up the team. Both James Harden and Russell Westbrook were sent away and the front office sent the team into a complete rebuild.
That rebuild is going to take some time unless the Rockets land a big name or two in the rotation. Ben Simmons could be the first. With Green running the show, Simmons would not have to act as the point guard and could play off the ball —something that could fit his skillset a bit more.
Simmons struggles to shoot the ball from the perimeter and he needs to be put in a situation where he can use his slashing ability. Of course, he’d have to accept being utilized more like a rim roller and orchestrator in DHOs but it doesn’t mean he’d be limited to not being the recipient of these sequences either, though.
The Rockets could stagger minutes for Green and Simmons to have someone to run the half-court offense while Simmons serves more as a complement when they share the floor.

A trade for Simmons is not a move that will get the Rockets any closer to a championship but it is one that can make them a bit more competitive. The Western Conference is extremely deep and it is going to be quite some time until the Rockets can compete once again.
