Does this trade make sense for the Phoenix Suns?
Deandre Ayton and Jae Crowder each played big roles in helping this Phoenix Suns team reach the NBA Finals last season, but in terms of landing Karl-Anthony Towns in a trade, these two guys are expendable to Phoenix.
Crowder is nearing the end of his career and only has a few good years left in him as a contributing player on both ends of the court and while Ayton’s potential is sky-high right now, so is that of Towns.
Just a couple of years separate these two in age and Karl-Anthony Towns has already proven to be a multi-time All-Star. If you pair him with another elite-level scoring threat in Devin Booker and arguably the best point guard of All-Time in Chris Paul, this Suns team is a much better title contender than they were a year ago.
The fact that Phoenix did not extend Deandre Ayton’s contract definitely tells us a lot about how they feel about him as a long-term center in their organization. He has proven to be essential in helping them win games, but the Phoenix Suns’ ownership and management obviously still has doubts about Ayton long-term.

He may not be a max player for them, but Karl-Anthony Towns surely is. Towns is just as good of a rebounder, if not better, than Deandre Ayton and in terms of scoring, the 2x All-Star center has averaged almost 7 more points per game than Ayton over the course of his career.
With him having the ability to be dominant in pick-and-roll situations not only as a roller, but stepping out on the three-point line and hitting multiple long-range shots, Karl-Anthony Towns is the perfect center to fit in next to Chris Paul and Devin Booker, hence why the Phoenix Suns should definitely pursue him in a trade if Towns is available.
