With the NBA’s deadline for rookie extensions passing this week, there are a few teams that will have some things to figure out in the future. One of those teams is the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Cleveland point guard Collin Sexton was eligible for a rookie extension after being selected No. 8 overall in the 2018 NBA Draft. Coming into the offseason, it sounded as if the Cavaliers were going to trade Sexton to another team.
The sides were far apart during negotiations. Sexton was looking to surpass the $100 million mark and felt his statistics were enough to warrant such. The Cavaliers didn’t believe so and wanted to work things out at a lower number.
A deal ultimately was not made, so Sexton will play out the remainder of his rookie deal and become a restricted free agent next offseason.
