Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving is no stranger to creating headlines. He has done it plenty with his performance on the court, dazzling NBA fans with his incredible ball-handling skills and ability to score the basketball.

He has also created headlines for off-the-court things. Most recently, his unwillingness to receive to COVID-19 vaccine is what has garnered the most attention.

Irving isn’t the only player in the league unvaccinated. Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards and Johnathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic are two people that have been vocal about being unvaccinated. The difference between them and Irving is that their teams do not play in cities with vaccine mandates.

New York City has one, which means Irving is ineligible to play at Barclays Center and Madison Square Garden as long as he chooses to not receive the vaccine. He is within his right to not getting vaccinated, but there are repercussions from the decision.

Irving has provided some insight into why he has remained unvaccinated. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about it, but one person who does not buy it is Stan Van Gundy. 

Van Gundy is back to the studio as an analyst this season after being fired by the New Orleans Pelicans following one season as head coach. He recently shared what he thought about the matter involving Irving.

There likely are other people that share a similar sentiment with Van Gundy when it comes to Irving sitting out. Whatever the reason may be for Irving to remain unvaccinated, it is one that he feels strongly about.
