One of the many veterans that the Los Angeles Lakers brought on board this offseason was forward Carmelo Anthony. They beat out the New York Knicks for his services, as they also pursued him in NBA free agency.

The Lakers will be the sixth team that he suits up for in his career. His signing with the Lakers has seemingly been a long time coming, as he will finally get to play with one of his best friends in the league in LeBron James.

Anthony has accomplished so much during his basketball career. The only thing missing is a ring and he will have a chance to compete for one this season on a Lakers team looking to make a deep run into the postseason.

As we head toward the regular season, Anthony’s role with the team has yet to be defined. Los Angeles is dealing with numerous injuries already, so the rotation will likely look different now than just a few weeks from now.

That isn’t anything that will phase Carmelo Anthony. He recently spoke about his role with the team and is ready to perform it to the best of his abilities whether it is in the starting five or second unit.

“I think by the time Game 1 is here, we will know, like I will know, everybody will know kind of what their situation is, what their role is. Right now, we just play. I don’t know. But I know what I have to do. I don’t know whether I’m starting or coming off the bench, but I know what I have to do.”

He will likely start the season coming off the bench as the team’s forward depth took a hit with Trevor Ariza undergoing surgery. He can provide minutes at either spot, spelling LeBron James or Anthony Davis.

No matter when Carmelo Anthony gets his minutes, he will be relied upon as a source of points. He has proven that he can still score the ball when needed and has become a solid 3-point shooter in the process.

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to need it, as Anthony provides a lot of what the team was missing last season as another player that can create instant offense.
