The Baylor Bears won their first-ever NCAA Tournament championship this past year and while Davion Mitchell, who was selected ninth overall in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings this year, played a big part in them winning the title, Jared Butler was also one of their key players all year long.
Following the 2021 NCAA Tournament, it seemed like Jared Butler was going to go in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft along with fellow teammate Davion Mitchell, but then Butler was told that he was not allowed to participate in the NBA Draft Combine.
Butler would have to be cleared by the NBA’s Fitness-to-Play panel, which consists of three physicians, one which is recommended by the NBA, one by the NBPA, and the third recommended by the first two physicians.
When he first committed to play at Alabama in 2018, Jared Butler was diagnosed with a heart condition and as a result, he transferred to Baylor where he was cleared to play.

As a result of him being held out of the combine, Butler’s draft stock began to plummet and some teams wanted nothing to do with him, even though he was expected to be cleared by this panel.
