Ben Simmons – Philadelphia 76ers

There is a lot of baggage that comes with trading for Ben Simmons right now, but this scenario just makes too much sense at the moment in terms of contract size and the team’s needing to do something.

Obviously, the 76ers and Nets are rivals so striking a deal involving superstars would not be easy for either side, but the money aligns almost perfectly between the two teams here. 

Swapping Irving for Ben Simmons is basically an equal move financially for both sides and for the Nets, they would be improving themselves defensively. Given his length and athleticism, Ben Ben Simmons can defend 1-5 on the basketball court, but how would he fit in with the likes of James Harden and Kevin Durant? 

Brooklyn would probably look to utilize Ben Simmons as more of a screener and pick-and-roll threat than anything else, but who knows, maybe he can finally reach his full potential next to two guys who are much better than him talent-wise. Irving’s fit with the 76ers is again a questionable move given his personality, but skill-wise, they really do need a guard like him.

Having Kyrie Irving in Philadelphia takes a ton of pressure off of Joel Embiid to have to do everything for this team and the All-Star center can even take some breaks here and thereby letting Irving go to work.

However, the 76ers management would probably prefer not to trade Ben Simmons for Kyrie Irving because they would be getting rid of a toxic situation for what very well could be another one. 

The Sixers have dealt with enough drama over the last several months and the last thing they need is the media’s attention shifting from Ben Simmons to Kyrie Irving. The fits for both teams definitely make some sense, but the extra baggage that would come along in this trade for Brooklyn and Philadelphia may be too much to ask the team’s to do.
