San Antonio Spurs Receive: F Bojan Bogdanovic, UTA 2023 1st Round Pick (Lottery-Protected)
Last season was a great year for the Utah Jazz and it does appear that they will be “running it back” with some upgraded talent on their roster during the 2021-22 season. Rudy Gay, Hassan Whiteside, and Eric Paschall were the three biggest additions to this Jazz organization in the offseason, finally giving them some experienced and valuable depth at various spots on the floor.
However, this team may not be able to win in the playoffs by just shooting threes. The Houston Rockets held a similar philosophy within their organizations for years with James Harden and the farthest they ever got in the playoffs was to Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals.
Utah has two All-Stars in Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, but they may need that extra, versatile player in their frontcourt to finally contend for a spot in the NBA Finals.
Thaddeus Young is definitely not the shooter than Bojan Bogdanovic is and Bogdanovic is a little bit better of a scorer offensively, but defensively, Young has the edge and he could take a lot of pressure off of guys like Mitchell and Conley in Utah’s backcourt.

In terms of consistent play and versatility, bringing in Thaddeus Young would be a smart move for the Utah Jazz and this move could be even more important for them since they do not have much depth at the power forward position.
Royce O’Neale is a solid role player in their starting unit, but besides him, the Jazz is heading into the season with Eric Paschall as the only other frontcourt option behind O’Neale because Rudy Gay is currently dealing with a heel injury.
This injury is not expected to sideline Gay long-term and he should be ready to go shortly after the season begins, but adding an experienced guy like Thaddeus Young definitely has its advantages.

Getting Bogdanovic in return for Young does not seem to accomplish anything for the San Antonio Spurs, but getting a future first-round pick definitely is a solid return for what this team needs.
