3. Marcus Smart averages 7 assists
Don’t look now but Marcus Smart is the longest-tenured Celtic. He is entering his eighth season in Boston and will finally become a focal point of the offense. Smart signed a new contract this offseason and there will be plenty of responsibility that comes with it.
Last season, Smart averaged a career-best 5.7 assists per contest. This has always been a strong suit in his game but was a bit overshadowed by other names. This includes the likes of Kyrie Irving, Kemba Walker, and Isaiah Thomas.
The Boston Celtics moved Walker at the beginning of the offseason and now, Smart is the point guard that can take over.
The Celtics signed Schroder to a one-year deal this offseason but it is unknown how big of a role he will actually play. Smart has a chance to bump his numbers up a bit this year and that could happen with an extended role.

This will be a key to success in Boston. If Smart is able to become an even bigger contributor at a consistent rate, the Celtics should be contenders once again.
