Al Horford finds himself back in a Celtics uniform for the 2021-22 season

Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are the two All-Stars on the Boston Celtics roster and they have been some of the best young talents in the league over the last year or so, but the rest of the Celtics’ roster has been mediocre at best.

The Celtics have not really had a reliable bench through the years and this offseason, they finally addressed some of the holes on their team by not only adding Horford but adding Dennis Schroder, Josh Richardson and Enes Kanter as well.

Having some “big man” depth is key for the Celtics and Al Horford may actually hold a bigger role on this team than many would expect. Horford is going to be entering Year 15 in the NBA during the 2021-22 season and while he is definitely on the back-half of his career, he can still be a key contributor.

“When you look at what he has done in this league, it is clear to see that Al Horford is a very underrated player. He can score, facilitate, and just understands the game so well to the point where he makes those around him better basketball players,” the league source told NBA Analysis Network. “Al is just so smart with the ball and always seems to make the right decisions, which is why he is almost like a coach out there on the floor. Boston has Tatum and Brown, but it was clear to see they needed more contributing guys last season and now they got one by bringing Horford back.”

Boston finished 36-36 last season due to numerous injuries and they had to earn their spot in the playoffs via the play-in tournament, but that may not be the case this upcoming year.

LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: NBA Scout Reveals Boston Celtics’ Biggest X-Factor This Season

It is hard to not put the Celtics in the playoff conversation this year and while the Nets, Bucks, and Heat seem like the Top-3 teams in the conference, there is no reason why Boston cannot contend for a top-seed.

Tatum is going to continue to grow into an MVP-caliber player and Jaylen Brown is a perfect No. 2 option next to him. The role Al Horford will play for this team will be similar to the role he held for three seasons prior with the Celtics, but he is going to be the type of veteran presence that can calm everything down.

No matter what team he has played for over the course of his career, Horford has always been a reliable player on the floor and he always seems to be willing to play any role the team needs from him.
