Indiana Pacers Have Previously Attempted Ben Simmons Trade
All offseason long, there were talks about the Indiana Pacers possibly making a big move by leveraging either T.J. Warren or their defensive star in Myles Turner, but no major trade talks ever developed.
However, Jason Dumas of KRON4 News and Bleacher Report reported back in July that the Philadelphia 76ers turned down an offer from the Pacers for Ben Simmons that included the likes of Malcolm Brogdon and a first-round pick.
Since losing to the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, the 76ers have been looking to trade Ben Simmons, but have been unable to do so due to their asking price. No team in the league has been willing to offer up an All-Star-level talent for Simmons and as a result, there has been a standoff between the Sixers and Ben Simmons over the last few weeks.
The 3x All-Star did not report to Media Day last Monday and has not shown up to the 76ers facility for training camp either. He seems very content with the idea of holding out into the start of the regular season despite Daryl Morey and Doc Rivers being open about the fact that they would like to see the young 7-footer back with the team as soon as possible.
LATEST NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Ben Simmons’ Main Goal With Trade Is To Be No. 1 Option
Now, the Philadelphia 76ers have withheld Simmons’ advanced $8.25M payment for his contract this season and do not intend on paying him until he reports to the team. Playing with someone’s money is definitely a way to get their attention, but at the same time, it is not always the best way to make them happy in terms of returning to the team.
What has transpired in Philadelphia has created a real toxic environment within this organization and as a result, it seems like all bridges have been burned with Ben Simmons and his agent Rich Paul, who also represents second-year guard Tyrese Maxey in Philly.
