How This Trade Impacts Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets are going to be without starting point guard Jamal Murray for possibly the entire 2020-21 season. So, shoring up the point guard position makes sense. But, in this deal, they are including their potential starting point guard in Monte Morris.

Morris does have his shortcomings, as he has battled injuries recently. But, Goran Dragic has not been a pillar of good health either. If the team does not believe Morris can be their starting point guard and wants more of a veteran presence, then this deal makes sense from that standpoint.

JaMychal Green is included to help match salary. He is expected to be a part of the frontcourt rotation, but Denver has pieces in Zeke Nnaji and Jeff Green that can help compensate for his spot in the rotation.

Bol Bol would likely be the toughest player to part with in this deal given the sky-high ceiling he possesses. But as a team looking to contend and win as soon as possible, they may never be able to unlock his full potential as they cannot fully commit to developing him.

This trade will also save the Nuggets a ton of money. Dragic is on an expiring deal, while Morris has two years remaining on his and Green has one. If Denver is looking to clean up their salary cap a bit, this trade would help accomplish that.
