Training camp is officially underway in the NBA and we still do not have a resolution in the Ben Simmons saga with the Philadelphia 76ers. The team continues to hold out hope that he will return to play for them, but that does not seem like something that will be happening.

Simmons is dug all the way in on playing for a new team. He is not taking part in training camp with the team, taking things to a level not even Anthony Davis and James Harden did with the New Orleans Pelicans and Houston Rockets.

The 76ers have the right to fine Simmons for everything that he misses, but that would likely have no impact on him. It has been reported that he is willing to sit out as long as it takes to get the trade that he seeks, even if it means missing the entire 2021-22 season.

Sitting out the full season would be unprecedented, but Simmons is in this for the long haul. Philadelphia will likely be the one who blinks in this situation, as they will likely want this situation to end so they can get back to focusing on basketball.

But, maybe there is some common ground that could still be found between the teams. Could the Raptors make a run in the Eastern Conference again pairing Simmons with Pascal Siakam?
