James Ennis

At this point in the offseason, one of the biggest surprises when it comes to remaining free agents is James Ennis. Ennis spent the 2020-21 season with the Orlando Magic and was rather productive.

He averaged 8.4 points per game on a career-high 43.3 percent shooting from 3-point land. He chipped in 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.8 steals in 24 minutes per game. Ennis is a 36 percent 3-point shooter in his career, so If that 3-point shooting is an improvement to stay, he will be quite a steal for a team this late in the game.

Standing 6’6” Ennis provides some positional versatility on that end of the court as he can defend wings, most backcourt players, and some frontcourt players depending on the situation.

Contending teams would love to add someone such as Ennis to their bench. Teams can never have enough players that can knock down 3-pointers consistently and play some defense. Even some teams that may want to battle for a playoff spot could kick the tires on Ennis. If they happen to fall out of the race sooner than anticipated, they can flip him for a future draft pick.

Ennis is someone every team should have near the top of their emergency player list should he not be signed during training camp. He comes with some playoff experience as well, a bonus for interested teams.
