Would this trade make sense for the Houston Rockets?
It was clear that Russell Westbrook had to get out of Houston right away, and the new Rockets regime in the front office did not waste time making significant changes then definitely benefit all sides. They can do the same once again by sending away a veteran point guard to continue to build assets.
In this NBA trade scenario, it would be John Wall that is moved. He still has a ton of money left on his contract, and this does not put the Rockets in the best financial situation moving forward.
Sending Wall away would allow the Rockets front office to focus on building around Jalen Green and Christian Wood. It is important to land some rotation players they can help right away, but the main benefit is getting Wall and his contract off the books.
The Rockets are a team that got used to competing in the Western Conference, but it was clear that they were heading in a new direction once the rules were made.

Now, the Rockets can look to land that big-name down the road. It will be costly to move on from John Wall’s massive contract, but if they are confident they can add talent in free agency, it’s a worthwhile move to make.
