NBA players get all the credit for their team’s success, but when the team is not doing so well, the head coach is always the “cop-out” person to blame.

Head coaches in the NBA do not get enough credit for what they do, even though their job is not as “hands-on” as collegiate coaches, but the best teams in the league usually have really strong head coaches. 

Just look at Gregg Popovich for example with the San Antonio Spurs! Coach Pop has been with the Spurs organization since 1988 and has been their head coach since he took over for Bob Hill during the 1996-97 season.

In this time span, he has seen a plethora of players come and go from his roster, yet he has been instrumental in helping the Spurs raise five NBA Championship banners and six Western Conference Championship banners.

It is time we start giving head coaches the respect they deserve in the NBA and it starts by acknowledging the Coach of the Year award as a very prestigious honor.
