Does this trade make sense for Minnesota Timberwolves?
Adding Ben Simmons not only makes the Minnesota Timberwolves a better team, but this acquisition would finally allow them to grow into a competitive team in the Western Conference, something they have not been in years.
When they drafted Karl-Anthony Towns in 2015, the Timberwolves made it a point of emphasis to finally get back to their winning ways, but they have gone just 185-279 since the start of the 2015-2016 season.
With one playoff appearance and one winning season since the 2004-05 season, the Timberwolves have been near the bottom of the league standings for close to two decades now, which is why they need to be willing to make a big move like this one for Ben Simmons.
By making this trade with the 76ers, the Timberwolves would have three No. 1 overall picks with Towns, Simmons, and Edwards, giving them three key talents to build with and around for the foreseeable future. After all, Karl-Anthony Towns is only 25-years-old, Ben Simmons is only 25-years-old and Anthony Edwards is just 20-years-old.

Not only can these three guys be the core of the Minnesota Timberwolves for at least the next 5-7 years, but this would definitely be a team that could contend for a play-in spot in the Western Conference.
Maybe they still come up short this season given their lack of bench talent, but they would be improved defensively, they would have three guys who are comfortable having the ball in their hands and the Timberwolves also have key veterans in Patrick Beverley and Taurean Prince, so there is no reason why this team could not be competitive with almost every other team in the league.

Not having a first-round pick until 2025 would definitely hinder the Timberwolves ability to surround their core with other young, high-potential talents, but at the same time, Ben Simmons is under contract through the 2024-25 season and would be the young talent they look to develop further, along with Anthony Edwards, who is coming off a strong rookie season.
If this trade is available for the Minnesota Timberwolves to make, there is no reason why they will not pull the trigger on this deal, especially with Gersson Rosas now out as team president.
