How This Trade Impacts San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs would like to receive a first-round pick in a trade that involves Thaddeus Young. They have yet to receive an offer of that nature and naturally, the veteran remains a member of the team as the start of training camp approaches.
In the midst of a transition period as a franchise, the Spurs need to be focused on gathering assets as they are currently with trade talks involving Young.
Not only would this trade scenario land the Spurs a first-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, the team would also gain Goga Bitadze, a player they were high on when he was going through the draft process.
The Spurs would maintain a lot of salary cap flexibility by acquiring Jeremy Lamb for salary matching purposes. Like Thaddeus Young, Lamb is set to play on an expiring contract. If he plays well, perhaps he could be re-routed later.

The Spurs do not need to hold onto Young for long after training camp, especially when considering it’s clear the two sides will part ways. The offers could heat up closer to the trade deadline as contenders need that final missing piece, but the Pacers could make strong offer now.
