How This Trade Impacts Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks committed Trae Young and John Collins as part of their future moving forward. Both signed lucrative deals in the offseason as Young signed an extension worth $207 million and Collins landed a five-year, $125 million deal.

Now, the team has to decide how they want to go about filling the roster around them. There are plenty of players on the roster worth extending and making part of their core. They won’t be able to keep everyone, so they package some pieces together and acquire Ben Simmons from the Philadelphia 76ers.

This would be an excellent move for Atlanta to make. Simmons and Young would be a strong pairing, instantly becoming one of the best backcourts in the NBA. They would each other’s shortcomings with their strengths.

Young has confidence shooting the ball once he steps over halfcourt. He is a great backcourt partner for Simmons in that regard given his shortcomings on that end of the court. Defensively, Simmons would help cover for Young, who is almost as much a negative defensively as he is a positive offensively.

Despite trading three capable floor-stretchers in Cam Reddish, Kevin Huerter and Danilo Gallinari, the Hawks have plenty of shooting on the roster. Bogdan Bogdanovic, De’Andre Hunter, Young, Collins, Lou Williams and Delon Wright are all capable shooters.

Simmons’s addition would give Atlanta another defensive ace for them to compete with the upper echelon teams in the Eastern Conference and cement their status as playoff contenders. Do the Philadelphia 76ers feel as positive after this deal? Let’s take a look from their perspective.
