Does this trade make sense for New Orleans Pelicans?
Seeing as they are hardcapped and would have to find more ways to free up cap space, there is really no reason for the New Orleans Pelicans to pursue a trade like this.
Plus, they have not seen Valanciunas and Satoransky play for them yet, so why would the New Orleans want to give up on two key talents they just acquired?
The Pelicans do probably need to add more overall talent to their roster to be a real threat in the Western Conference, but they really do not have a bad looking team this year.
Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram are two All-Star-like talents and with several key talents around them in Jonas Valanciunas, Tomas Satoransky, Devonte’ Graham, Josh Hart, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and many others, the Pelicans could realistically contend for as high as the 5-seed in the Western Conference during the 2021-22 season.

By midseason, they could end up being “buyers,” but Kristaps Porzingis is the wrong talent for them to invest in. He has injury concerns looming over him with his knees/legs and Porzingis is owed over $100M the next three seasons, which is not ideal for a team like the Pelicans who are not yet a championship contender.
The best move the Pelicans can make right now as an organization is to just sit back and let their guys play, especially since this team is still one of the younger teams in the league.

The New Orleans Pelicans average age right now is just over 24.6-years-old, giving them plenty of room to grow and develop as a yearly playoff threat in the Western Conference.
