Buddy Hield

The Sacramento Kings haven’t hidden the fact that they are open to trading Buddy Hield. He has been on the trade block for a while now, as rumors were going back to last year that he could be traded to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle.

That deal has zero chance of happening now, but rumors involving Buddy Hield haven’t stopped. He was almost traded to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this offseason.

Before the Lakers pivoted to land Russell Westbrook, a deal was seemingly in place that would have landed Buddy Hield in purple and gold with Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, and the No. 22 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft going to Sacramento.

Knowing he was that close to being traded could make things awkward when he returns to the team. The Kings have also essentially squeezed him out of the backcourt and into a wing position with how they have drafted in recent years.

Their last two lottery picks have been used on point guards Tyrese Haliburton in 2020 and Davion Mitchell in 2021. With their best player already being a point guard in De’Aaron Fox, those three will likely be sharing the court a lot.

That pushes Buddy Hield out of position to a wing spot. Trading him for a player better suited to play on the wing would be smart for Sacramento to help balance out their roster.
