A new era has begun in Houston, as former NBA MVP James Harden is no longer a part of this franchise. This was the Rockets’ first offseason without Harden on their roster and they did a fantastic job at assembling future assets to build with.

Not only are Christian Wood, Jae’Sean Tate, Kenyon Martin Jr., and Kevin Porter Jr. still on this roster, but the Rockets added four highly talented rookies in the first round of this year’s draft.

Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Usman Garuba, and Josh Christopher all were drafted by Houston this year and each of these four rookies is going to hold important roles in helping shape the future of this organization, Green especially. The Rockets are rebuilding in the Western Conference, much like the Orlando Magic are in the Eastern Conference.

With no Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, or Evan Fournier, the Magic are looking to build with their young talents, led by a ton of guys in their backcourt. Markelle Fultz, Cole Anthony, R.J. Hampton, and rookie Jalen Suggs are the key names in this backcourt, along with Jonathan Isaac, Wendell Carter Jr., and Mo Bamba in Orlando’s frontcourt.

Overall, the Magic and Rockets both seem to be ahead of the game in terms of their rebuilding process, but neither team is going to really do anything in the “win category” this upcoming season.

However, this will not stop either team from making moves to set them up for success. Bamba was drafted 6th overall in 2018 by the Orlando Magic, but he has been very underwhelming for them through his first three years in the league.

At some point during the 2021-22 season, Orlando could realistically look to move him, especially since Wendell Carter Jr. and Jonathan Isaac look like the future of this frontcourt.

The Rockets and Magic could look to get a deal done revolving around Mo Bamba at some point, but the Dallas Mavericks could also want in on the action to acquire one of Houston’s key veterans.

What could this three-team deal wind up looking like? Let’s take a look at a deal that would get the Orlando Magic another experienced frontcourt option, the Houston Rockets Mo Bamba and the Dallas Mavericks a key veteran in their backcourt.
