The Washington Wizards were one of the teams that many people were keeping their eyes on this offseason. They had the potential to change the landscape of the NBA with their star-studded backcourt of Russell Westbrook and Bradley Beal.

The biggest trade during the offseason involved Westbrook, as the Washington Wizards traded him out west to the Los Angeles Lakers. Washington got back a solid group of veterans in Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Montrezl Harrell. They also received the No. 22 overall pick, which was used to select Isaiah Jackson, and they flipped for Aaron Holiday and Isaiah Todd.

With Westbrook traded, many thought that Beal would be next. Instead, Washington took a different approach, reloading and upgrading the roster around their All-NBA shooting guard.

Beal now has an intriguing supporting cast around him that should push for a record above .500 during the 2021-22 season.

The trio from the Lakers will help, and Spencer Dinwiddie was acquired from the Brooklyn Nets via sign-and-trade in a huge five-team deal. Corey Kispert was selected with the 15th overall pick, adding to the recent lottery selections of Rui Hachimura and Deni Avdija.

The Washington Wizards have a good foundation to build upon, but there will always be whispers about Beal’s future. He can become an unrestricted free agent in 2022, so until he agrees to and signs an extension, trade rumors will persist. Could the acquisition of a second-star help keep him in Washington long-term?

One player that could fit that bill is Toronto Raptors’ power forward, Pascal Siakam. Washington was named a brand-new landing spot for Siakam, and he would be a wonderful pairing as the second All-Star to pair with Beal.

The Toronto Raptors are in a bit of a quagmire. The most decorated Raptor of all time, Kyle Lowry, departed this offseason. That opens the door for a possible rebuild in Toronto. Their selection of Scottie Barnes out of Florida State with the No. 4 overall pick could also show their hand, as he plays the same position as Siakam.

Pascal Siakam was named to the All-NBA Second Team for the 2019-20 season, making his first All-Star team that season. He would provide Washington with an excellent two-way player that has come into his own offensively and offers versatility defensively. If he can get his 3-point shot back on track, his offensive game can take off.

The price for acquiring him will not be low. If this means Toronto is embarking on a rebuild, they will want some young players to build their new foundation going forward. Avdija or Hachimura could be in play in that scenario, along with Todd and Daniel Gafford.

Kuzma and Harrell, who are on an expiring deal, would provide the Toronto Raptors with some veteran presences to help bring the young guys along. Thomas Bryant, who is recovering from ACL surgery, is another expiring deal that can be included in Harrell’s place as well.

A starting five of Dinwiddie, Beal, Caldwell-Pope, Pascal Siakam, and Bryant, Gafford, or Harrell could be good enough to make an appearance in the second round of the playoffs. If things fall in their favor, they could even be a dark horse for the Eastern Conference Finals.
