This Los Angeles Lakers team is going to be unique
Given all the young talent that has come into the league over the last 5-6 years, we really have not seen many teams go with an “old school” approach to things, but that is exactly what the Lakers are doing right now. The average age of all the players they added to their roster in free agency this offseason, not including the likes of DeAndre Jordan yet, add up to just over 32-years-old, which is unheard of.
Many teams are always looking to get younger, but not the Los Angeles Lakers! This team is already a championship contender with the likes of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Still, now, they brought in Russell Westbrook, Rajon Rondo, Dwight Howard, and Carmelo Anthony, who all combine for 31 All-Star appearances, 24 All-NBA appearances, and 3 championships.
They do have many older players who may have already gone past their primes, but the Lakers also signed younger players like Kendrick Nunn, Malik Monk, and Talen Horton-Tucker, all of which will see their fair share of minutes during the regular season.
Nunn, Monk, and Horton-Tucker may not be key talents and the first guys off the bench for the Lakers, but in terms of back-to-backs, as well as games against lower-level teams, they will be key for the Lakers to rely on. One NBA scout even spoke to NBA Analysis Network and called the signing of Kendrick Nunn one of “the most underrated moves of the offseason.”

These three young guys really do have a chance to surprise a lot of fans this year. While LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, and others will get the spotlight shined on them, Kendrick Nunn, Malik Monk, and Talen Horton-Tucker will each play important roles off-the-bench for this team all season long.
In search of another title, the 2021-22 season has a chance to be special for the Lakers and they have a chance to do something no team has ever done before. No team in NBA history has ever had as many former All-Star talents on their roster, nor have they had as many potential Hall-of-Famers on their roster, which is why the Lakers have a strong chance to raise a banner in Staples Center once again.
