Why Atlanta Hawks Do This Trade

The Atlanta Hawks had an incredible 2020-21 season. But, they do not want to rest on their laurels and should be doing whatever it takes to push this team closer to truly becoming a contender in the Eastern Conference.

They have a strong roster top to bottom, but you need to have stars outside of a few rare instances to succeed in the NBA. They look to have one in Trae Young and another good young player in John Collins, but adding a legitimate superstar in Bradley Beal would help get this team to the next level.

The things this team would be able to accomplish on offense with Young and Beal in the backcourt would be eye-popping. Both can carry the offensive load, making Nate McMillan’s job, at least on offense, an easy one.

Using the great roster depth they have put together to acquire Beal makes sense. Atlanta has almost too many players that deserve playing time, so consolidating that into a star player makes sense. But, they are getting more than just Beal.

Rui Hachimura and Daniel Gafford are good rotation pieces as well. Hachimura can slide into a second unit role behind De’Andre Hunter and Collins in the frontcourt. Gafford showed with the Wizards; he can provide excellent production when given a chance. He is a good backup to Clint Capela.

Those three players with Young, Collins, Hunter, Capela, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Lou Williams, and Delon Wright are a much more dangerous team with a higher ceiling with a star in Beal adding the group.
