The Minnesota Timberwolves have struggled for years now. They have made the playoffs only once in the last 17 seasons, with the lone appearance in 2018 keeping them out of the NBA record books.

Last season was another difficult one, as Ryan Saunders was fired after starting the season 7-24. Chris Finch was hired in his place and he saw some better results, going 16-25. They did end on a high note, finishing the season 11-11 to have some momentum heading into the offseason.

Unfortunately, the Timberwolves didn’t have their first-round pick as a silver lining to missing the playoffs once again. Their pick was sent to the Golden State Warriors in the trade that saw Andrew Wiggins head out west and D’Angelo Russell come to town.

Russell, who is a good friend of Karl-Anthony Towns, had an up-and-down first full season in Minnesota. He appeared in only 42 games, starting 26 of them as he battled various injuries. Russell averaged 19 points per game to go along with 5.8 assists, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.

Russell returned from a 26-game absence to help finish the season with that 11-11 run and is part of the team’s core moving forward. But, in the NBA, if an opportunity to improve presents itself, it has to be taken into consideration.

Here are three teams that should consider trying to get Russell from Minnesota in a trade.
