Every year some older players contemplate making a comeback attempt to the NBA. This offseason, that player is Monta Ellis.

Ellis has been out of the league since 2017 when he was released by the Indiana Pacers. Ellis was still pretty productive, averaging 8.5 points, 3.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game during the 2016-17 season.

Despite being able to still play at the highest level, Ellis didn’t feel his mindset was right for himself or any team. So, he decided to take some time off for his mental health and becoming a better family man.

Four years later, the Mississippi Bullet has put those issues behind him and he is ready to attempt a comeback to the NBA. He has been putting in the work for the last four years with NBA trainer Djamel Jackson, working out four days a week at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in Dallas, Texas.

Ellis believes he has a lot left in the tank and can play another five years.

“If I have an opportunity to do it, it is what it is,” he said. “If I don’t, I’ll still be a husband and a father, and I have an AAU program. I’m good either way. But to come back, to be able to challenge myself and do the thing that I haven’t done in a while, that will be a big challenge that I am willing to accept if it comes.”

Now, Ellis just has to wait and see if a team will give him the opportunity that he is seeking. Here are three teams that should consider giving Ellis a chance.
