The Brooklyn Nets are going to continue filling their roster out with veterans looking to chase a ring this offseason. They added five players in the 2021 NBA Draft to help replenish some of the depth that they lost, but it is unlikely all five play significant roles this offseason.

If they do, that means one of two things. Either the Nets found some excellent diamonds in the rough and have some steals on their hand or they suffered a lot of injuries. Relying on rookies is a risky proposition, so adding another established veteran in Paul Millsap would be a sound strategy.

Millsap can help provide depth in the frontcourt where the Nets don’t have much of. With Jeff Green moving on in free agency, the team is left with James Johnson and Blake Griffin to soak up frontcourt minutes along with rookie Day’Ron Payne and Nicolas Claxton. It is unclear if DeAndre Jordan, who was glued to the bench at the end of the season and received zero minutes in the playoffs, will be reinserted back into the rotation or not.

Millsap could help at both frontcourt spots, offering relief at power forward and center. His defense would also be a welcome sight, as the Nets struggled to stop anyone on defense last season, especially frontcourt players.

The chance to compete for a title would also be a selling point for Millsap, as the Nets are as well-positioned as any team to raise the Larry O’Brien trophy following the season.
