Gary Harris – Orlando Magic
The Denver Nuggets traded Gary Harris to the Orlando Magic last season in a deal that landed them Aaron Gordon, but the Orlando Magic may not have plans to hold onto Harris too long. He is soon-to-be 27-years-old and is entering the final year of his $20.4M contract, which is why the OKC Thunder could easily absorb Harris’ contract at some point during the season if the Magic look to unload him.
Orlando recently drafted Jalen Suggs to be their point guard of the future with the 5th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft and with them still having Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz and others in their backcourt, Gary Harris could wind up being pushed out of the rotation.
The Magic are rebuilding and it seems very hard to believe that Harris would be a part of their long-term rebuild plans at this point in his career, which is why they will either hold onto him through the end of his contract or look to move him for any kind of assets.
If the Magic were to trade him, they could wind up being in a similar position to the Thunder needing to actually add salaries to their roster, but the Thunder could wind up being a third or fourth team in a trade at some point, resulting in them potentially landing Gary Harris.

If OKC was to get Harris, they would only be doing so to cross this threshold and he would likely wind up being more of a veteran “advisor” like Al Horford was last year to allow the young talents of the Thunder to play more minutes and continue developing.
