His Value May Never Be Higher
At the end of the day, the NBA is a business. It is not easy sometimes, but teams do make decisions based on how it will impact the bottom line. It causes some hard feelings, but when teams can maximize a player’s value, they have to take advantage. That could be the case here with Myles Turner.
Turner has led the league in blocks per game twice in the last three seasons. He is a solid 3-point shooter, providing a team with good value on both ends of the court. His contract is also an affordable one, as he is owed $18 million in each of the next two seasons.
Trading Turner when he is not on an expiring deal would net the Pacers a much better package. Teams will surrender more in a trade when they know they have the player under contract for multiple seasons.
With the NBA salary cap likely to increase again with fans coming back into arenas, Turner’s contract could look like a steal sooner than later. A player that can protect the rim and stretch the floor is an elite combination.

Teams will pay a pretty penny for that combination and if Indiana doesn’t believe Turner is a piece of their long-term core, cashing in on him via trade now makes sense.
