Balance Out Roster
Parting ways with Myles Turner would give the Indiana Pacers a chance to balance out their roster. The modern NBA makes it very difficult to succeed when you use two traditional big men like the Pacers have been doing with Turner and Domantas Sabonis.
By trading Turner, the Pacers would alleviate those issues in their frontcourt. They would be able to shift T.J. Warren to the power forward spot alongside Sabonis in the frontcourt. Caris LeVert could start on the wing alongside Justin Holiday or Jeremy Lamb with Malcolm Brogdon in the backcourt.
Should they land a defensive-minded wing in a deal for Turner, it would be a major win for the franchise. That player could slide into the starting five alongside Brogdon, LeVert, Warren and Sabonis to really balance things out for Indiana.
Turner is an excellent defender, but the team’s defense overall was still poor. While Sabonis doesn’t have the defensive impact Turner does, some of their issues defensively would dissipate with him playing more minutes at the center spot instead of trying to slow down players at the 4.

Sabonis may land a bigger return package for Indiana, but the team’s ceiling is much higher with him as the centerpiece of their frontcourt compared to Turner.
