The Detroit Pistons hit the lottery in the 2021 NBA Draft. They were given the first-overall pick and the chance to land Cade Cunningham. This means the Pistons have a franchise player to build around. Cunningham now joins a young core that is promising and they can continue to add depth in this trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Detroit made some moves this year to get younger. Derrick Rose and Blake Griffin were sent away. Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart ended up being on All-Rookie teams in the league. This was with Killian Hayes on the shelf for most of the season. Not to mention Jerami Grant put up his best statistical year of his career.
Throw Cunnningham into the mix and the Pistons have a core to build around. Grant might not be part of that core because of his contract situation. Coming off this year, there is great value around Grant and it will be interesting to see if Detroit takes advantage in a trade.
If Grant is available, the Timberwolves are a team to keep an eye on. It was another down year for Minnesota. This has become a trend for the franchise. They have not been a postseason team and it does not look like that is going to change anytime soon.

The Timberwolves have plenty of trade pieces this offseason and they could use them in a deal for a bigger name like Grant. The only untouchable player in Minnesota seems to be Anthony Edwards, who was taken with the first-overall pick last year. And yes, this includes Karl-Anthony Towns.
This is a deal between two rebuilding teams looking to retool the roster. Let’s take a look and see how this deal could happen between the Timberwolves and Pistons this offseason.
