There has been a lot of discussions this NBA offseason about what direction the Dallas Mavericks will take their roster. They have a clear leader in Luka Doncic and they now have to build the roster out around him.

The team decided to add some two-way players to help them on both ends of the court. Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock were signed in free agency and both will provide some defense and excellent floor spacing. The tandem both shot over 40 percent from the 3-point line last season.

Adding two players that will improve the defense was a good decision by the front office. Dallas has seen its defensive rating worsen in six straight seasons. That is a streak that needs to be snapped if the team wants to make some noise in the postseason.

Another thing that Dallas wanted to add to its roster around Doncic was a secondary ball handler. Having another player that can not only create some offense on his own but someone who can create for teammates as well.

Too often Doncic was the sole creator for the team offensively. There have been reports that the team wants Goran Dragic, but they do not want to trade for him; they are holding out hope that the Toronto Raptors will buy him out.

If they do not want to trade for Dragic, maybe they will target a younger player in a trade. D’Angelo Russell of the Minnesota Timberwolves would make for an intriguing target for Dallas.

What could a trade for the former All-Star look like? Let’s take a look at a potential deal between the teams.
