Paul Millsap

One of the more surprising veterans that has not been signed yet in free agency is Paul Millsap. Whether or not he wants more money than he is being offered remains an unanswered question, but the 36-year-old big man is a guy who can still contribute off-the-bench for a playoff contender.

While Millsap may not be the All-Star he once was earlier in his career with the Hawks, he has still been a factor in Denver these last few seasons even though his minutes have rapidly been declining. Paul Millsap averaged 20.8 minutes per game last season, and even saw his minutes dip below 15 minutes per game near the end of the season, but he still managed to be effective, averaging 9.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and shooting 34.3% from deep.

Again, he is not a guy that is going to make a difference in a team’s starting unit, but coming off-the-bench, every playoff threat should want an experienced guy like Millsap who has been in this position before. Teams like the Nets, Lakers, Heat and Bulls have all shown interest in the veteran forward, but all four of these teams would like to sign him to a veteran’s minimum contract.

The Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers are also two teams that have been mentioned to NBA Analysis Network as potential landing spots for Paul Millsap, but it looks like he is going to want to go to a team that has an immediate chance to contend for a title.

After making $10M last season in Denver, it seems like a veteran’s minimum is the only type of contract Millsap will receive at this point, especially since pretty much every team around the league has used all of or a portion of their mid-level exception and would likely not want to use more of it on a 36-year-old big man.
