Does this trade make sense for the Chicago Bulls?
Giving up Lauri Markkanen for just a pair of second round picks is not something the Chicago Bulls would like to do. In fact, it’s already known that what’s desired from their perspective is at least a first-round pick.
The Dallas Mavericks are another team who have been linked to Markkanen at times but are labeled as ‘unlikely’ to get a deal done. Giving them a call and at least seeing what they would be willing to offer in a sign-and-trade scenario would be worth a check-in.
The Bulls likely will need to accept that Markkanen doesn’t want to play in Chicago anymore and quite frankly, they probably don’t want him there much at this point, either. Making a move to create a trade exception while getting a few assets may be the best move.
If the Mavericks are not enamored with the idea of acquiring Markkanen in a sign-and-trade deal, the market is all the more bleak with the Charlotte Hornets already having signed Kelly Oubre Jr.

It all depends on what the Bulls truly can get in a trade scenario but even if the return is small directly, the value of creating a trade exception for a team who has such a high payroll is at least worth the consideration.
