Does this trade make sense for the Philadelphia 76ers?

The Philadelphia 76ers put themselves in a corner when it came to trading Ben Simmons. Having a high asking price for him made sense, but pushing for a trade to the point that he no longer communicates with the organization makes things difficult for them.

They want to get fair value for him, but that just won’t happen any longer. His value is at his lowest given his shortcomings in the postseason and they are motivated to get a deal done. Something will have to give, and it will be the asking price for him.

While this deal with the Spurs doesn’t involve any All-Stars, it does give Philadelphia some added ammunition to make other deals.

Dejounte Murray could be the team’s point guard of the future. He is already a strong defender and playmaker who has above-average shot-making ability at the rim and in the mid-range. If he was able to develop into a consistent 3-point shooter, as he has two seasons in his career or at least 36.9 percent and two seasons at 31.7 percent or lower.

Derrick White provides Philadelphia with another scoring option in their backcourt. His floor spacing and playmaking would play well in a lineup alongside Joel Embiid.

Devin Vassell is a developmental player for Philadelphia. For a team that is in win-now mode, they may not be able to develop him, but they can use him to upgrade a trade package along with the other picks they selected.

Philadelphia has reportedly been shopping Tobias Harris this offseason. While he has not drawn much attention by himself, a package that includes him, Vassell and other young players on the roster, and first-round picks could help net the 76ers another player to pair with Embiid to help get the organization over the hump in the postseason.
