Lonzo Ball

The New Orleans Pelicans made one of the bigger moves ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft. They cleared a ton of cap space by trading Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams to the Memphis Grizzlies, getting Jonas Valanciunas back.

There were draft picks acquired, but the cap space cleared is what people are focusing on. New Orleans can now be players in free agency and Kyle Lowry is reportedly the player they want to target.

If that is the case, where does it leave Lonzo Ball? Ball has developed nicely in his two years with the Pelicans, showing that he is adaptable to any situation. Stan Van Gundy made him more of a 3-and-D player and he excelled in the role. Being versatile is key in the NBA, but Ball will be able to go back to his playmaking roots with the Chicago Bulls, who will snag him in restricted free agency.

The Pelicans are unlikely to match a large offer sheet for Lonzo Ball, making him a prime target for a team that can spend a little money. The Bulls need a point guard and fill that with the former UCLA product.

Lonzo Ball is a great fit in the backcourt alongside Zach LaVine. He is an excellent playmaker and defender and his newfound shooting stroke will help make teams pay when they pay too much attention to the Bulls’ All-Star duo.
