Dallas Mavericks: DeMar DeRozan

The Dallas Mavericks have a pivotal offseason approaching following the decision to replace Rick Carlisle with Jason Kidd as head coach. Luka Doncic requires an extension soon and the Mavericks need to ensure they do everything in their power to keep him long-term.

One way to do that is to sign a free agent like DeMar DeRozan. While DeRozan doesn’t improve Dallas’ issues in rim protection, with Porzingis likely on his way out, DeRozan can act as a small-ball power forward for the Mavericks — similar to what he did for the San Antonio Spurs this season.

Signing DeRozan and acquiring another star player would be a great start toward convincing Doncic that the organization is headed in the right direction.

Denver Nuggets: Lauri Markkanen

It was a blow to the gut for the Denver Nuggets when Jamal Murray went down with a season-ending injury this season. Despite his absence, Denver was still able to advance to the Conference Semi-Finals, only to get swept by the Phoenix Suns.

For the Nuggets, they don’t have many glaring needs, but getting a power forward that can stretch the floor would be ideal. Lauri Markkanen is a name to watch for Denver as he fits exactly what they need alongside Nikola Jokic in the frontcourt.

Even though Markkanen is a restricted free agent, it appears his time with the Chicago Bulls is coming to a close this offseason, putting the Nuggets in a position to pursue the former first-round pick.

Golden State Warriors: Patty Mills

It is shaping up to be an interesting offseason for the Golden State Warriors. Do they hold onto their young players who are still developing? Or do they side with trying to maximize their window to win a title with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green?

My money is on the team trying to end their two-year drought of missing out on the playoffs. While Curry is fantastic, the Warriors need an experienced point guard that can run the show when Curry heads to the bench. Getting a veteran like Patty Mills would be a perfect, yet cheap signing that could work wonders for Golden State.
