It was not too long ago that Victor Oladipo was an ascending All-Star for the Indiana Pacers. Three NBA seasons ago Oladipo was coming off of a career campaign and his first All-Star appearance, looking like a key cog of the Pacers’ future.

The former Indiana Hoosier averaged 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assist per game. He also led the NBA with 2.4 steals. He made another All-Star team during the 2018-19 season but suffered his first major injury when he tore his quadriceps.

He battled his way back to return to the court just over halfway through the 2019-20 season but battled move injuries and the COVID-19 shutdown of the league. At the beginning of the most recent season, Oladipo looked like he was returning to form.

In nine games with the Pacers to start the season, he looked like the Oladipo from 2018-19, averaging 20 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 steals. He was a part of the James Harden blockbuster deal and landed with the Houston Rockets, where his efficiency waned but he was still putting up solid stats across the board.

Houston flipped him to the Miami Heat, where he lasted only four games before tearing his quadriceps again. Now, he is entering free agency, recovering from surgery and expected to miss the beginning of the season.

It isn’t an ideal situation, but there are still teams that should be interested in signing him, the Dallas Mavericks being one of them. Here are three reasons the Mavericks could strongly consider signing Victor Oladipo.
