The Atlanta Hawks made an improbable run to the Eastern Conference Finals this year after many believed that they had a small chance of making the NBA playoffs entering the season!

This Hawks team is young, they are fun to watch and they are led by one of the best guards in the league in Trae Young, so this team is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Talent-wise, they have a ton of young players who are more than capable of playing various roles, but Atlanta has a big decision to make in regards to one of their young talents this offseason.

John Collins is a restricted free agent and after failing to reach a long-term agreement with him prior to the start of the 2020-21 season, the Hawks could be in trouble in terms of having competition with Collins’ pending free agency.

The Heat, Spurs and Timberwolves are three teams who are expected to pursue Collins in free agency this offseason, but the Dallas Mavericks are another team who are expected to pursue him and could be the greatest competition to the Hawks. They are all organizations to watch in rumors for a potential sign-and-trade this NBA offseason.

Dallas has a need for a strong, young power-forward that can get things done on both ends of the court and with Luka Doncic being their leader, the Mavericks are a very attractive destination for other high-level, young players.

With nearly $20M in cap space, the Mavericks could look to pursue John Collins outright as a free agent, but it seems more logical that they would look to acquire him via a sign-and-trade if they agreed to a deal in principle with Collins and he did not want to return to Atlanta.

A lot would have to go right in order for John Collins to leave Atlanta, especially after the success he had with them this year, and go to the Dallas Mavericks, but anything is possible in the offseason, especially when money is being thrown around left and right!

With this said, let’s take a look at a possible sign-and-trade scenario between the Hawks and Mavericks involving John Collins.
