The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to make some upgrades to their roster this offseason. After falling short of their ultimate goal of winning another NBA Championship, Rob Pelinka will assuredly explore every avenue to make sure that does not repeat itself during the 2021-22 season.
While injuries are not something a general manager can control, he can provide the team with better options to combat them when they happen. No one can overcome the loss of two All-Stars such as LeBron James and Anthony Davis for an extended period. However, there could be pieces that fit better behind them that will step up when needed.
The team had hoped they would get that from Montrezl Harrell and Dennis Schroder, their two biggest offseason acquisitions, but things didn’t pan out. Harrell was out of the rotation by the end of the season and Schroder missed time because of health and safety protocols twice.
While both struggled at times, replacing them will have its challenges. The Lakers do not have the cap space to replace them with free-agent signings, only have some exceptions to use.

The trade market could be difficult to navigate, as Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are the only real tradable contracts they have and they are lacking in draft capital from the Davis swap.
Los Angeles will have to get creative when filling out its roster this offseason and one player they should target is PJ Tucker.
