Sam Presti is one of the greatest front-office executives in the NBA and he so happens to be the general manager of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team that has been selling assets for years and now have 38 total draft picks through the 2027 NBA Draft!
Oklahoma City’s front-office has done a great job at setting themselves up for a successful future and now they have enough draft picks to literally build two new teams! The Thunder definitely are not going to be drafting 38 new players over the next seven years, so what is their ultimate plan right now?
With young, talented players in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Darius Bazley and others on their roster already, player development will be a huge focus of the Oklahoma City Thunder, especially since Mark Daigneault is their head coach.
Presti specifically hired Daigneault not only because he was a young coach that could relate to a young team, but because of his experience as a coach in the G-League, formally known as the Developmental League (D-League), with the Oklahoma City Blue.

Developing their current talents even further is going to be key for the Thunder to potentially make it back to the playoffs over the next couple of years, but they also will be looking to add even more talent through the draft. OKC has six picks in the 2021 NBA Draft (6, 16, 18, 34, 36 and 55), so they have plenty of ways to add talent, but this 6th pick is going to be a pick to watch.
The Oklahoma City Thunder want to and need to add a high-level talent to their team with this 6th pick, which is why they likely will not be trading it. Although they would potentially like to move up, there will be some very talented layers on the board with the 6th overall pick in this year’s draft, which is why Oklahoma City could look to target one of these four players.
