#4 Patty Mills – Unrestricted Free Agent
The Boston Celtics desperately need scoring help off-the-bench and they need backcourt help, so why not get both with a player like Patty Mills! The soon to be 33-year-old guard just finished up his 12th season in the league and his 10th season in San Antonio.
Mills seems to be viewed as a key veteran talent available on the free agency market this year that may not be as expensive as many believe. His previous contract earned him $48M over the course of four years, but Patty Mills is not going to get this kind of contract anymore.
At most, he will likely get $6M-$8M per year, but the Celtics could possibly look to get him at a discounted rate since they are a “championship contender.”
If they could get Patty Mills to sign a veteran’s minimum contract, this would be highly advantageous for the Celtics, but it is highly unlikely that he will sign for anything less than the mid-level exception.

This past year with San Antonio, Mills averaged 10.8 points, 2.4 assists and shot 37.5% from three-point range. With his 10 years of playoff experience and his championship back in 2014 with the Spurs, Patty Mills is a veteran guard that a lot of playoff contending teams will likely target, making things complicated for Boston’s chances of potentially signing him.
The Celtics do not really have a lot of cap space to play around with this offseason, which is why they may not be able to go after Mills. His price tag may be too high for what they can afford and Boston would much rather keep a guy like Evan Fournier in free agency than go after a veteran guard in Patty Mills.
