Boston Celtics Receive: G Malcolm Brogdon
Indiana Pacers Receive: G Marcus Smart, F Romeo Langford, 2022 second-round pick and 2023 second-round pick
To make salaries match, the Celtics would have to include Marcus Smart with one of their recent first-round picks, such as Romeo Langford. If Indiana asked for another one of the young players, such as Payton Pritchard, the draft compensation would certainly change.
In this deal, Indiana receives a solid replacement for Brogdon in their starting five in Smart. He would bring some much-needed defensive intensity to the unit that was lacking on that end of the court. Caris LeVert and Domantas Sabonis are both good enough playmakers that a true playmaking point guard wouldn’t be necessary to make their offense run smoothly.
Langford gives Indiana a young player that they could try and develop as a piece off the bench. Injuries have kept him sidelined for the majority of his NBA career thus far, but he was a lottery pick by the Celtics in 2018 for a reason.
The two second-round picks in this deal are a nice sweetener for Indiana. That can be used to help facilitate other deals that they may try to make or give them more opportunities to round out their bench.

For the Celtics, Brogdon would take over as their starting point guard, replacing the departed Walker and Smart. They would lose some of their heart and soul and toughness with Smart moving on, but what Brogdon doesn’t provide defensively, he more than makes up for offensively.
