Ranking top 4 options for Pelicans with No. 10 pick in 2021 NBA Draft

New Orleans Pelicans, 2021 NBA Draft
NBA Analysis Network

It has been hard to say good things about the New Orleans Pelicans over the last few NBA seasons because while they have a decent roster, they have just consistently underachieved the expectations placed on them. With Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Eric Bledsoe, Josh Hart and Steven Adams this season, the Pelicans looked like a team that should surely compete for a playoff spot, but they did not even make the play-in tournament!

Injuries definitely played their role in New Orleans’ demise this year, but moving forward, they must prove that they can compete otherwise they may wind up losing their star players. There have been trade rumors involving Ingram over the last few months and recently, there were reports that Zion Williamson may be unhappy with the Pelicans.

Multiple NBA insiders from The Athletic outlined that Zion’s frustrations in New Orleans could be mounting and he could be receiving a lot of pressure from family members and friends to possibly “jump ship” before it sinks.

Zion Williamson is still under contract with the Pelicans for two more seasons, but over these next two years, they need to find ways to win. With a new head coach coming in soon after one year with Stan Van Gundy, Zion will have a third head coach in as many seasons, which is not a good look for this franchise.

They have not made the playoffs since 2018, their cap situation is not ideal and as of right now, no big name players want to sign on and play for the Pelicans because they have no stability within their organization right now! The only way this team can likely improve is by continuing to develop their young players and add more talent to their roster through the draft.

This offseason, the Pelicans have the 10th pick in the draft and will have a lot of options in terms of the kind of prospects they will be considering. With that said, let’s take a look at the Top-4 options for New Orleans with the No. 10 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
