Use an exception is used on Paul Millsap
The Boston Celtics will not have much wiggle room this offseason when it comes to signing free agents. With Jayson Tatum’s contract extension set to kick in, they will begin dipping into the luxury tax.
As a result, they will be armed with some exceptions, which they would be smart to use on a player such as Paul Millsap.
Boston tried to acquire a versatile power forward at the trade deadline, such as Thaddeus Young or Harrison Barnes but was unsuccessful. Millsap would help fill a similar role and give Boston more depth in the frontcourt after bringing back Al Horford.
Millsap is a seasoned veteran with 129 games of playoff experience. He is a capable floor spacer and good rebounder, two things Boston lacked from their frontcourt this past season. His defense would also be welcomed with open arms.

If the Celtics can snag Paul Millsap with one of their smaller exceptions, they could use their mid-level exception to help add depth in the backcourt.
