Chris Paul – Phoenix Suns

And finally, saving the best for last, we arrive at the man who was finally able to make the NBA Finals after fighting to do so the previous 15 seasons. In Year 16, Chris Paul has finally made it to the NBA Finals and while he is not getting any younger, Paul may be playing his best basketball of his career right now.

He battled a shoulder injury during the Suns’ first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers and then had to deal with health protocols relating to him testing positive for COVID-19, but adversity is nothing new to Chris Paul and he was able to overcome all of these obstacles. In fact, they may have just added extra motivation for Paul in these playoffs, which is bad news for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Not only does the 36-year-old point guard enter his first NBA Finals highly motivated to contend for a championship, but he is coming off of one of the most impressive games of his career and that is saying something because CP3 had played in 1,212 total NBA games before going off against his former club in the Los Angeles Clippers.

With the Phoenix Suns one win away from reaching the NBA Finals in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals, Chris Paul was not about to let anything stand in the way of his date with history and he simply took over the game. Paul scored a playoff career-high 41 points on 16-24 shooting, including a career-high 7 made three-pointers, and he also had 8 assists. The most impressive part of Paul’s night though was the fact that he did not turn the ball over once, the third time he had 0 turnovers in a game during these playoffs.

The “Point God” has truly been doing “god-like” things for the Suns in these playoffs and with him looking like a man on a mission, the Bucks will have their work cut out for themselves trying to contain the veteran guard.

Chris Paul has found success in every single series he has played in and whether it is scoring or dishing out double-digit assists, he is able to do a little bit of everything for this Suns team. His impact defensively is also extremely important to their success and while he is not the biggest guy, he is extremely pesty on defense no matter who or what position he is guarding.

This has been a magical season for the Phoenix Suns and they possibly may have missed the playoffs if Paul was not a part of their team this year. If the Suns win their first championship, it seems only fitting that Chris Paul would be named Finals MVP. He has gone through a lot in his career and not only finally winning a ring, but being named Finals MVP would cement his name in NBA history as arguably the greatest point guard to ever play.
