The Los Angeles Clippers made team history this year as they made the Western Conference Finals for the first-time in their 51-year history. They came very close to making their first NBA Finals appearance as well, but they were unable to overcome the Phoenix Suns, in large part because Kawhi Leonard was out.
In the Western Conference Semifinals, Leonard suffered a mysterious right knee injury and was held out for the remainder of the Clippers’ postseason. Now, Kawhi Leonard has a big decision to make with his $36M player option for next season and could potentially opt out of his contract to become the biggest free agent available.
His status to return to Los Angeles right now is uncertain, but there is a belief within the Los Angeles Clippers organization that Leonard is not going anywhere.
With him and Paul George leading them, the Clippers truly believe that they have a championship contending team, but they still seem to be one piece away from finally breaking through and making the NBA Finals.
